Sue McDougall

Sue has a strong connection with horticulture and agriculture.
Her first exposure to the science of growing plants and the important link with the environment was on a broad acre farm in marginal farming land in Western Australia. The native flora in this region led to a love and the study of Western Australian plants. This is also where she fell in love with the horticulture industry and has been involved for 35 years in all stages of a plants life, from propagation to production through to retail and marketing.

Sue is a horticulturist, landscape architect and broadcaster and free range producer. She runs a landscape design and construction company, along with her husband Andrew, designs many gardens and outdoor areas across the state and oversees a free-range farming business in SW Western Australia.

In her spare time she presents for The Garden Gurus and answers gardening questions on 882 6PR every weekend, inspiring both gardeners and self-confessed non gardeners have success in their own outdoor spaces. A job she loves - early mornings on the weekends for over 25 years, she has helped generations of gardeners and seen many different trends. She jokes that she is also a marriage counsellor and often casts the defining vote on family (gardening) related disagreements, usually when it comes to pruning!

Sue gets no greater pleasure from inspiring gardeners to create great gardens, enjoy outdoors and have success with their plants.

A mid-life career changer from high finance in London, Brent has successfully transitioned into horticulture, gaining international recognition along the way. Originally trained in the UK with the Royal Horticultural Society, my work has been honoured with multiple awards, including Bronze Medals from the RHS (2019), the International Green Space Award from the Australian Institute of Horticulture (2023) and a Gold Award from the Landscape Industry Association of Singapore (2024).

Previously the Head Gardener of the world’s highest edible garden, Brent now manages one of Australia’s largest private market gardens, supplying produce to leading Melbourne restaurants, Patsy's, Bistro Elba, and Bau Bau. Currently completing my Royal Horticultural Society Master's qualification, I bring a sharp eye for detail and a strong commitment to transforming outdoor spaces—visually, structurally, and horticulturally—into environments of lasting beauty and productivity"
